  • GARBAGE GARBAGE EVERYWHERE

Our motto is “ You die when the last tree dies.”

The rights for the first two books were were sold to East African Educational Publishers in Kenya. In 1997, SSP had the honour of publishing two picture books by MehsackAsare, the famous writer and illustrator of children’s books. The books were SOSU’S CALL and THE MAGIC GOAT. SOSU’S CALL won the 1999 UNESCO First Prize forChildren’S Literature in the Service of Tolerance and soon became an international hit. As at present, it has been translated into Portuguese ,in Brazil, Castille and Catalan in Spain, French, Italian,  Danish Czech, Kiswahili, Mandarin Chinese in Taiwan and Simplified Chinese in Mainland China. It has also been published in English in North America and the UK.as well as South Africa.

Sub-Saharan Publishers has since published 10 other titlesby MeshackAsare. SSP is now a specialist in African children’s picture books.

It has diversified and now publishes scholarly books, research, history books on the transatlantic slave trade and African literature.SSP was one of four publishers selected by the University of Ghana to publish the University Readers, the first of its kind in Africa.

Sub-Saharan Publishers is a member of African Books Collective based in Oxford.; an African initiative that markets African published books in Europe the ,Americas and the rest of the world.

Akoss Ofori Mensah is a member of the Council of Management of African Books Collective; has been an executive member of International Board for Books for four years and vice president 2014-2016 as well as the IBBY African Regional  Representative.
